At the beginning of Covid in 2019 caregivers were leaving the industry by the droves. The caregiver service called and said there would be eight to nine different caregivers seeing her a week, this was unacceptable for her and the senior community. God said, you take care of her! I said No twice, but on the third time I surrendered. I drove 40,000 miles that year. I saw her twice a day, sometimes more and took her to her Dr. appointments. On the road one day to see her I was listening to Joyce Meyer, and God said, “You have been taking care of senor and people since you were a small boy and I want you to give your knowledge to others around the world”. I actually laughed out loud at God! Well, I am here to say that when God has a purpose for you it likely to happen. ”A man’s heart plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps.” A so today, I walk the path which has been lit before each step of my feet with God's vision opening by His greatness before my own eyes.
My mother Nancy had eyes that twinkled with love and kindness. She always had a “Big” smile on face that welcomed you into her heart. She loved politics and a variety of organizations. She loved people. She love football and Terry Bradshaw and Brett Farb. She rooted for the underdog much of the time and would sit in front television hooping, hollering and having a blast.
Unfortunately, we had many tragedies, some very serious while I was growing up and we walked through many together during my lifetime. Many of them were family members but some were friends and others we did not know. My Mom was always there to lend a helping hand wherever she was needed. She taught me that it was important to be kind, caring and compassionate with everyone we helped. I’m not sure if she ever knew, but she was helping God groom me for his purpose as I serve Him today.
My mother—in-law Lorraine was an avid tournament duplicate bridge player who had won many trophies over the years. She loved animals and would take in the strays. When she lived at the senior community she walked a half of a mile every day. She would keep her cornbread and other scraps from her meals and feed the squirrels and birds as she walked the 27 acre property in her community. Our relationship was very special and I was honored to be her son-in-law, advocate and take care of her during the last five years of her life.
“You are like the light of the world. A city built on top of a hill can not be hidden, and no one would light a lamp and put it under a clay pot. A lamp is placed on a lampstand, where it can give light to everyone in the house. Make your light shine, so that other’s will see the good you do and will praise your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16
